One woman at the table decides to gift another player her entire 18K stack with AJ on an A 4 6 8 9 board. Of course the other player has 57 on the turn for the nuts. I never seem to get Christmas presents like that! She walks off looking surprised that she lost.
One Iranian guy just called 3K on the flop with K 10 to hit a gutshot straight and crack Aces. Looks like a table on which I can hopefully get on but also need my wits about me judging by what I'm seeing so far. A few of these guys clearly like to gamble, which is just fine.
104/113 so far.
Presently I'm still around start stack. I'm playing plenty of pots by treading lightly, hoping to get a gift like a few of the others on the table. We just started level two.
A beard with hat, headphones and WSOP regalia just joined the table. At least these guys are normally easy to play against as they mostly read the same 2+2 threads on poker.
I just lost around 3200 when I took a shot with 88 vs a micro stack and his shove with 10 10. Another player immediately announces that he folded an Eight before the board runs out, which I thought was very nice of him.
Just got the chips I lost back again with Nut flush vs 3rd nut flush on a paired board. He raised me on the river anyway.
Quite a few ups and downs, but at the end of level 3 and first break, I'm basically back where I started on 18K or so. Ho hum.
Back from break, and I get into a pot with 7c6c on a 347 board with one club. It has potential three way, but when the lump in the 10 seat bets 10K I decide it's too expensive. Plenty at the table would likely call that with this hand for over half their stack, but I guess with 129/163 still in, I'm just not one of them.
Level 5 and down to 15K, no great fuss, am just taking my time and being careful. My Iranian friend who was playing far too many hands and hitting every gutshot under the sun is now out. He must have had 45K at one point, but just didn't slow down. The pace on the table which is now 10 handed is a bit more sedate than earlier.
I flopped a flush, and the board double paired by the end, costing me a lump as most of the betting was already done by the turn, and then I flopped top pair and a gutshot with AQ on an A K 10 board, and got reraised all-in. I wish I was dumb enough to make these calls, but I'm not. Down to 11K or so.
Turned a set of 3's and won a small pot, but have missed about 5 times with other pairs. Spots like this I guess are a bit frustrating, but for now just trying to play through it. I can fire another bullet today if needed, but of course I'd rather spin up what I have, which is currently around 10K as we hit 50/200/400.
Level 8 right now and have been card dead for quite a while. I've largely just stayed out of trouble to conserve chips, but it's push or pass territory right now. I can re-enter if needed but will look for a spot first to get back into contention before it goes up to 100/400/800, as 6K won't cut it there.
Just had to jam 43 quite uncomfortably on an A3456 board into two people. It got through but it was a nasty moment. Up to 10K again.
Well, found my Eureka moment, and shipped AhQh on the putton to a small raise and a call from two serial raisers. Original raiser calls with AK off, and the other guy folds. Feck. I hit the Queen, but he also catches a King and I bust. No complaints. re-enter as we hit level 9, and 100/400/800.
On a new table with a bunch of internet dweebs who all want to talk about poker. Sigh.
One kid with around 50K on the table just shoved the lot in on a 367 flop and got his opponent to fold. He then showed JJ like it was the crown jewels. I go from 18K down to about 15,000 in a couple of orbits, then find Ah Jh in the big blind. The same kid now makes it 2K to go, and one other player calls. I also call.
Flop is J27 with two spades. I check, the kid bets 2200, the other player calls and I now shove all-in, 99% sure I'm good. He dwells and asks for a count, and then calls for the 11K extra, the second player then folds. He turns over Q9 of spades for a crappy flush draw and one overcard to the board. How can he lose?
He misses his flush, and then rivers a Queen which busts my AJ. What fun the new game of poker really is. That was worth 15,000 of anyone's money.
Breathe, wish everyone luck and leave. Nothing else to do. Some of them are going to need it.
