Hopped over the pond, did a little admin and unpacking, and...here we are, like I've never been away. Also my internet service has been decidedly sketchy, so I can't update away from the casino with my normal ferocity, you'll be delighted to hear.
A slowish looking start, as we only have 88 players so far as I sit down for event one. This is an event with three day ones, so I'm not overly concerned about going crazy 5 minutes into the festivities. The table is pretty sedate, and generally good natured. I start talking and one hick says "oh, do you know Will?" I bit my lip.
Made it up to the first break without incident. The guy in the 10 seat (I almost said "The Asian guy in the 10 seat" but didn't want to piss off the hatemongers on day one) has perfected the novel trick of basically winning every single pot thathe plays. So far I've counted two boats, four flushes, two sets and two top two pairs for him, and as I said he's won them all. It's a good system and I think maybe I should learn it as it looks like reaping dividends in the long term.
Level 4 and I'm just below the 18k start stack on 16k. No need for any acrobatics just yet. I'm sure I'll be ducking and diving shortly.
Chugging along quite merrily at level 5, and thanks to flopping a fush and playing possum with the old 52, I'm back to just shy of 20k. Happy times.
Lost a meagre amount by getting (cough) creative and then missing the world, but got it back with interest with 55 when the table suddenly went passive and kindly let me river a set. They are looking after me and no mistake.

Back from the second break and something of a change of pace from the mornings antics. The 10 seat who was winning every pot comprehensively butchered his whole stack in two back to back hands, one was against aces sure, but he could probably have lost about 6k, and not the whole 25k. We all play differently...
I've lost AK to AJ, JJ to A2 (it was suited...) and 88 to 22, so have taken a knock back down to about 13k. I have another bullet in the chamber if it continues to bleed down, but I might decide against using this, and just keep the spare shell for a fresh start tomorrow if required. We are on level 7 currently and I could crack into it again if the worst happens, but I'd rather have a sprint start and rebuy early than come in with 18k when guys are now on 40 or 50k. Not a set decision but that would be my preference.
Kicking off level 8 after the chip race taking the 25's out of play. 400/800/100 so this is the time to start running like... well.. better than I have been most of the morning.
I reserve the right to change that strategy. Just watched two balloon-heads get 20k each in preflop with 99 and 77. If I knew I was coming back to this table it'd be worth considering the investment...
65 players remain from 126 starters. Been a little lacklustre so far but sometimes a gentle start is better than a white knuckle ride every second. Not sure if I'm talking about poker or relationships there, but I digress.
My table just broke, and I got moved to a new table, sitting on the immediate right of three middle aged women. Please insert joke here.

The vibe on this table is everyone is raising a lot bigger, and complaining when they get outdrawn. The dream for day 1a just bit the dust...
Found the right spot. AQ on a Q 10 3 board, shove and get called by JJ, and by...AK, a jack on the turn to bump me from first to last place. The woman who makes a straight stands up and exclaims "yes!" with a big fist pump. I pack up and wish most of the table the very best of luck....
Was a bit of a damp squib today, a slow start but not expensive. I shall enjoy all that Halloween in Las Vegas has to offer, and return rejuvinated tomorrow....
