EVENT updates
I originally did updates on Facebook or Twitter for the benefit of my investors, or those who were just interested in how I was getting on. If someone has a share, I think they deserve some proper feedback on how their money is doing out there in battle. This is a paradox for me, because I pretty firmly believe that social networking should be just that-social, and I've always baulked when people, friends even, try to spam you endlessly and fish for hits/likes/clicks under the guise of friendship when it's actually just a (not) very thinly disguised marketing tool. Maybe it's not on every occasion, but I find it reprehensible. Besides, if you've played enough poker you know that in reality no one really wants to hear poker stories that end badly anyway, they're generally boring, and not even slightly "so sick" as the storyteller would normally have you believe. They're just not really that interesting.
Having said that...
There's also dishonesty in poker. People not actually playing in events that they signed up for, making up stories about how they busted out, overselling their shares, if you can think of something crooked, it's probably happened somewhere. Yes I know I'm not painting a wonderful picture, but having said all that, some people do have a real sense of honour and integrity about how they practice their art. I'm one of them. I always update my progress via this website and not on social media for those who care to know how things are going via the update page. If I win something or cash big, I can always post a happy snap on Facebook and spare everyone 35 postings of chip counts, or photos of not much changing at a poker table. I hope that all makes sense.
