Afternoon decision to play the 4pm flight of the PH $300 event. I was going to play tomorrow instead by was feeling fresh early afternoon so decided to jump into this and late-reg for this with 50 bigs. Came in just ending level 4 and immediately won a small pot. Table seems placid enough so far.
Been a little frisky and 15k quickly becomes 20k.
Quickly into level 7 and I'm bang on the average. Table isn't getting too out of line and I'm just conserving chips and taking the odd shot once per orbit or so.
Level 8 and 300/600/75. I'm on 27k so all good currently.
Welcome to that well known tournament animal, the guy who can't or won't fold AK. It just cost me my tournament on the final hand of level 8.
I raise to 1700 at 300/600/75 with 99. Young guy I've been chatting with makes it 4100. I call leaving myself about 17500.
Flop is 8 10 Q. I don't mind the flop for my hand... I'm pretty sure he's got AK, and I check to let him bet, he bets 3500, and I check-raise all in for another 14000.
He sighs, asks for a count, twiddles his chips, and finally calls for around 3/4 of his stack.
Turn 10
River J to make him a straight.
Out we go after playing I think pretty well and getting in a position to be well over average and have a commanding lead in the table. I just say well played and good luck and leave. What else could you say?
Maybe try the 11am flight tomorrow. I'll sleep on it.
